Text Box: Through the speaking of vows, you give verbal expression to your commitment in the presence of witnesses.
The Wedding Vow is a public promise to love, honor, respect and comfort your partner.
Writing your own Wedding Vows can be a beautiful gift from the heart to each other, The Wedding vow is not simply pretty words; it is a sacred declaration of commitment about how the individuals intend to nurture, support, and love each other as marriage partners.
It is not necessary for both the Bride and Groom to say the same words. Some even choose to keep their vows secret from each other until their wedding day. While most couples choose their first name only during the Wedding Vows, some like to use their full names.
While many want to write their own vows, others are more comfortable with traditional vows. In either case, the vows can be shared directly between the Bride and Groom, or in a repeat-after-me format with me. Dome people fin that the repeat-after-me format to be distracting and impersonal. Also, when using the repeat-after-me format, the Bride and Groom often look at me rather than at each other when speaking.
The Groom, traditionally, says his vows first, and then the Bride says hers. I have over 40 samples of Wedding Vows. Since the sample vows are interchangeable between the Bride and Groom, I have not labeled the blanks in the three text examples that follow:
I, _____, take thee, _____, to be my wedded wife/husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge my love.
I take you, _____, to be my wife/husband, from this day forward, to join with you and share all that is to come. I promise to be faithful to you until death parts us.
_____, I take you to be my wife/husband, to laugh with you in joy, to grieve with you in sorrow, to grow with you in love, serving mankind in peace and hope, as long as we both shall live.
